The ODROID M1S is an improved version of the ODROID M1 – based on the valuable insights from both B2C and B2B clientele. Hardkernel has innovatively introduced the ODROID M1S board, offering increased GPIO ports (40 + 14 Pins), a more streamlined form factor, and reduced power consumption. Impressively, the M1S boasts a 20% slimmer profile compared to the ODROID M1, accompanied by an approximate 20% reduction in power consumption. The addition of 14 extra GPIO pins and an embedded 64GB eMMC chip further elevates its capabilities.

Please note that the GPIO Pin Headers are NOT included.

Complementing the ODROID M1S, Hardkernel provides the official Hardekernel case, a heatsink, and a Type-C power adapter (EU version in this release). The commitment extends to a guaranteed supply of the product until at least 2036.

RockChip RK3566 SoC 1.8GHz Quad-Core Processor

Powering the ODROID M1S is the RK3566 System-on-Chip (SOC), meticulously designed as the successor to the original M1. This successor seamlessly retains compatibility with a vast array of existing software while integrating enhanced hardware specifications. Boasting a quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 CPU operating at 1.8GHz, the M1S strikes an optimal balance between energy efficiency and operational prowess. The available version comes equipped with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM, addressing diverse computing needs without compromising on cost-effectiveness.

Neural Network Processing Unit (NPU)

Acknowledging the industry's shift towards machine learning, the M1S seamlessly integrates a Neural Network Processing Unit (NPU) capable of delivering up to 0.8 TOPS, providing users with advanced capabilities for machine learning applications.

Display Connectivity

Highlighted by a 4-lane MIPI-DSI port, the M1S facilitates direct connectivity to LCD panels.

The optional ODROID-Vu8S kit, featuring an 8-inch, 800×1280 wide-viewing-angle LCD and capacitive multi-touch screen, presents an optimal solution for Human-Machine Interface (HMI) development, supporting both Android and Linux operating systems.

Embedded eMMC Chip

Breaking new ground in the ODROID series, the M1S integrates a default eMMC chip directly soldered to the PCB, offering 64GB of storage capacity. Boasting a speed of approximately 180MiB/s, the eMMC surpasses typical microSD cards by 3 to 5 times, ensuring efficient data access for embedded systems.

External Storage Possibilities

To cater to expanded storage needs, the M1S incorporates an on-board M.2 NVMe slot supporting industry-standard 2280 form factor NVMe SSDs. While the transfer speed experiences a reduction compared to its predecessor, reaching ~400 MiB/s, it remains more than sufficient for various high-end embedded systems.

Please note that only PCIe interface (M-Key) NVMe SSDs are supported, and M.2 SATA storage devices are incompatible.

Power Efficiency

The ODROID M1S showcases notable power efficiency, with peak consumption at around 3.7 Watts during booting, dropping to 1.5 Watts in the desktop GUI idle state with Ethernet and HDMI monitor connected. For headless systems, idle power consumption further decreases to nearly 1.0 Watt. Disconnecting the Ethernet cable results in an additional power drop to 0.7 Watt.
