The Nova SDS011 Particle Sensor makes use of the Laser Scattering Principle in order to detect the concentration of particles in the air. The device detects the scattering of light and the patterns into digital signals. These signals are then processed and amplified. 

This particle sensor is based on the Laser Diode. The service life of the Laser Diode is 8000 Hours (maximum). For Live or Real-Time-Data you can set the frequency of the sensor to Once in a second. However, you can prolong the service life by configuring the sensor to one-time in 30 seconds or even one-time in 5 seconds. It depends on the type of data tracking you need to monitor air quality.
