Raspberry Pi 4 Drawing

Raspberry Pi 4 Model B comes with various upgrades and adjustments which distinctively differentiate this board from the previous Raspberry Pi SBCs. The main thing that makes Raspberry Pi 4 different from its predecessors is that it supports some of the functions you generally associate with Desktops. For example, when using Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, you can create presentations, open multiple tabs when browsing the internet, edit documents, and juggle spreadsheets. This is the first time that Raspberry Pi Foundation has introduced an SBC that lets you enjoy the same experience you generally expect from a desktop. The advantage of using a Mini PC instead of a bigger desktop is that it consumes far less power than a desktop consumes.

What is Different with Raspberry Pi 4 Model B

Since the release of Raspberry Pi 1 B+ in 2014, the Raspberry Pi Foundation didn’t change the appearance of these SBCs. A quick look at Raspberry Pi 4 doesn’t let you notice too many changes. But if you concentrate for a few seconds, you’ll notice that the design of this board is slightly different from that of the previous boards.

MicroUSB replaced by USB-C

The power connector now uses USB-C instead of a MicroUSB port. This upgrade ensures the supply of 500mA additional current. This additional current feeds the downstream USB devices with 1.2A even when the load on the CPU is high.

Dual-Display Port (Type-D Micro HDMI Connectors)

Previously, Raspberry Pi SBCs carried Type-A (full-size) HDMI connector. But Raspberry Pi 4 Model B has 2x Type-D Micro HDMI connectors.

Ethernet moves from bottom right to top right

The positioning on the Gigabit Ethernet Magjack has been reset. Unlike the previous boards, Raspberry Pi 4 holds the Ethernet at the top-right and this adjustment simplifies PCB routing.

Raspberry Pi 4 is compatible with the PoE HAT because the position of the PoE connector remains the same as it was on the older Raspberry Pi versions.

4Gbps Bandwidth for 4x USB Ports

USB ports are supported by the external VLI controller. The (Express Gen 2-Lane) single PCI is connected to the USB. The ports (2x USB 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0) share 4Gbps bandwidth.
